Every UNN Student needs extra cash at one point or the other. We are always looking for something or someone to give us money.

One way an undergraduate can earn extra income is by starting a side business in school. 

With a profitable side business, you can ease the financial pressure on yourself and have extra cash to settle your needs.

However, most UNN Students think it's impossible to start a side Business in school due to the academic stress students already face. 

This is a lie because, it is very possible to start a profitable business in school and have good grades at the same time. Infact, many students have done it before, so you too can do it.

Here are steps to launching a side Business that won't affect your academics in UNN.

BUILD AN AUDIENCE (YOUR CUSTOMERS)

No matter the business (product or service) you end up starting, You will need people to patronize you.

Who will buy your product when nobody knows you?

Therefore, before you start any business. Make sure you have an audience of people that know you and listen to you. This is to avoid writing on your status  'Please patronize me, I never chop since morning'.

The first step to building an audience is to develop good relationship with people. 

Saying Hi or Howfar to your course mates or lodge mate would go a long way to help you and your business layer. 

Save people's contact and let them save yours. Then always be updating your WhatsApp status with useful information and/or entertaining content.

Also remember to help people at any chance you get.

Those people will be your customers or promoters in the future.

DECIDE AND SOURCE FOR A PRODUCT TO SELL OR SERVICE TO OFFER

Your product or service is what you will offer to people in exchange for their money.

The product could be anything that students around you need but is not readily available.

You can sell palms, shoes, clothes, Phone accessories, jewelry etc. 

You could also make customized Journals, Sell gadgets, etc.

The aim is to look a product that students need, buy it cheap and sell it at a higher price to make profits. So think, what do your guys or babes need that you can find and sell. 

Or, you might offer a service based on your expertise.

It may be plating/barbing hair, holding tutorials, offering graphic design service, doing term papers. Etc

Be rest assured that there are many people that need help with that thing you can do easily. You can offer that service for a fee.

MARKET YOUR PRODUCT

Oya, it's now time to sell your market.

After deciding and sourcing for a Product / Service to offer, it's now time to let people know about that product or service.

Tell your friends about it, post it on your status, even tell your enemies about it.

If you did step one (Build an Audience) very well, people would be eager to either buy from you or help you promote what you are selling.

The more people that see your product, the potential buyers and money you'll get.

Don't be like some people who are shy to promote their business. If you're shy, hunger will finish you and UNN hunger does not have Joy.

DELIVER QUALITY SERVICE AND GET REFERRALS

By now, you are already getting customers who are buying from you. Once people start patronizing you, ensure you deliver quality products or service to them.

Don't cheat or deceive people in your business or you'll get a bad reputation that will kill that business.

After delivering quality service, always ask for referrals from your customers and tell them to patronize you next time.

MANAGE YOUR TIME WELL

No matter the business you are doing, always remember that you're still a student first. F In UNN does not send whether you are an entrepreneur or not.

Therefore, ensure to plan your time well and focus more on academics. 

Except when you really have a free and no lecture day, you shouldn't spend more than 3 hours on the business. 

Planning and using time effectively will help you balance your academics and business.
